To develop education and training activities to inspire future generations through the study of space.
These are the themes at the heart of the 4th Symposium on Space Education Activities (SSEA), to which Euronike participated by presenting the GIS4Schools project funded by Erasmus+ programme.
The symposium, organized by the European Space Agency (ESA), after successful past events in Padua (2015), Budapest (2018) and Leicester (2019), was held in Barcelona, April 27-29 2022, at the premises of the Universidad Politecnica de Catalunya.
The symposium represents an important forum for university students, professionals working in education and other young professionals, allowing them to discuss their experiences in organizing, managing and participating in space-related educational activities.
Euronike participates to share the experience developed in the field of school education with the GIS4Schools project funded by Erasmus+ programme.
GIS4Schools addresses the need to improve STEM education in Secondary Schools by providing students with adequate analytical skills and new methodologies based on the use of GIS technologies, in order to better understand the world in which they live and to address urgent environmental challenges retaled to the climate change.
The audience was also presented with the GIS4Schools Handbook, a manual that combines theory and practice with step-by-step exercises for teaching GIS technologies and Earth Observation. Designed and developed by Politecnico of Milan, it encompasses the fundamentals of GIS and introduces the use of QGIS software. You can download the Handbook here in 6 different languages:
